Winter in Altenmarkt
Altenmarkt-Zauchensee is situated in the alpine ski area of Salzburger Sportwelt. The Salzburger Welt area includes the towns of Radstadt, Altenmarkt, Zauchensee, Flachau and Kleinarl. These towns have a combined ski piste area of over 350 km and approximately 100 ski lifts, all accessible with only one ski pass. The different ski areas are not all directly linked with one another, but the complimentary ski bus will happily take you to wherever you want to go!
The ski slopes have a huge variety of levels, which means that whatever your experience, there’s definitely a piste for you. And to end the day, the Après ski is second to none. In Altenmarkt, there is a brand new Bifang (a fenced in stroke of deforested land) that takes you all the way to the top. At the bottom of the Bifang, the smallest skiers can learn the basic moves and slide down the beginner’s slope and have fun in the pancake ski lift.
To the slopes
The ski slopes of Altenmarkt and Zauchensee can quite easily be reached by car as well as with the free ski bus.
With your back facing Chalet SnowPlanet, go left out of Römerstrasse. When you reach the T-junction, turn left in the direction of Markplatz. At the second set of traffic lights, turn left again. You should now be driving on Zauchenseestrasse. When you continue on this road for about 6 km, you will arrive in Zauchensee. You can park on the outskirts of town for free. Parking costs for the undercover or underground car park vary according to the season and the day.
Please note: make sure you always have snow chains ready in your car! If you don’t feel comfortable driving with snow chains during snowfall, it’s highly recommended to make use of the free ski bus!
Free ski bus
The ski bus takes you from the corner of Römerstrasse and Brunnbauergasse to and from Zauchensee. Depending on the time of year the return times do vary, so please double check the times!
There is a small slope in Altenmarkt that’s perfect for beginners and (smaller) children. You can find it about halfway along the Zauchenseestrasse towards Zauchensee. If you’re up for a bigger challenge and more variety, the pistes at Zauchensee are sure to satisfy your needs. And also the other ski areas of the Ski Amadé, such as Flachau, Kleinarl and Radstadt, are more than worthwhile to visit!
